Situated in an old print factory in East London, Hackney Downs Studios is a renovated co-working space that has been specifically designed to suit the needs of designers, artist and makers. The space, which was developed and launched by Eat Work Art features workstations set apart by steel-framed shelves that can double up as drying racks. The design team sourced reclaimed parquet flooring, taken from derelict school buildings in and around London, and used it to cover desks. The building’s garden also formed a key part of the design, accessed from one end by a central glass wall entrance, and echoed inside by leafy plants that are placed around the office.
Origin’s FLUX Sled chair was specified for the space. The chairs clean and contemporary aesthetic provides a contrast to the space, working harmoniously amongst reclaimed wooden tables, palm trees, and steel framed surroundings. The project has been a great success with the industries leading architecture and design magazines featuring articles about the project.
